Unbelievably, 2 out of 5 people don’t get enough sleep every night. As a result, you may have trouble with falling asleep at work. When you are sleepy at work, a whole host of problems can and will arise.
When you go to work tired you are far less alert, social, and overall productive. Luckily, there are a variety of ways that you can boost your energy and stay awake at work, even if your job can get a tad boring.
We are going to explore ways that you can combat fatigue and become an all-star employee. We promise it’s easier than you think!
Get Some Sleep
It may seem like common sense, but if you don’t get enough sleep, you are going to be tired the next day. It is recommended that you get at least 7 hours of sleep at night. You may need more or less depending on your individual needs.
If you find that you are not sleeping regularly there are steps that you can take to help get more rest. For example, limit distractions such as your TV and smartphone when you are laying down.
We have all ended up scrolling through Facebook hours after we should be asleep. If you don’t allow yourself the opportunity to start mindlessly scrolling you will find that it is easier to get the rest you need so you don’t end up falling asleep at work.
Eat a Healthy Breakfast
Another great way to improve your energy levels is to make sure you eat a healthy breakfast in the morning. You should try to eat food that is high in protein and vitamins. Whole grain food combined with fruit is your best bet.
When you consume unhealthy food for breakfast, such as a sugar-infused cereal bar you are setting yourself up for failure. The sugar will eventually cause you to crash, and as a result, you may find yourself dozing off when you should be working.
Use Caffeine (In Moderation)
You need to stay awake if you want that big promotion at work! Caffeine is another great way to wake up and stay active throughout the day. You need to be careful where you get your caffeine from though.
Some good options include green or black tea, coffee with minimum cream and sugar, and caffeine gum. All of these different options can help you put a little pep in your step.
You should avoid consuming too much coffee or energy drinks in excess. If you take in too much, you could experience a “crash” which can only be satisfied by consuming more caffeine. It is a vicious cycle that could contribute to you falling asleep at work.
Avoid Falling Asleep at Work
Falling asleep at work could cause many problems.
You may let down the company by not getting your assigned tasks done by the end of the day. You could even lose your job depending on the situation.
Hopefully, these tips help you fight back against mid-day fatigue.
